Founded in the 6th century by St David, the Patron Saint of Wales, work on the present Cathedral started in the 12th century by Bishop Peter de Leia. The Bishop's Palace, rebuilt by Bishop Henry de Gower between 1328 and 1347, became the largest and richest diocese in medieval Wales
